Last-gasp win takes pressure off Bohs

A dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Neil Yadolahi all but secured Bohemians’ Premier Division survival as they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Dundalk at Dalymount Park last night.

Now eight points clear of bottom sides, Bray Wanderers and Shelbourne, with two games to play, should Bray not beat Limerick on Sunday, Bohs will be safe.

Second-placed Dundalk failing to win also now means that victory for St. Patrick’s Athletic over Sligo Rovers at Richmond Park on Sunday evening will see the Inchicore side crowned champions.

Dane Massey had looped a header from John Sullivan's cross over the head of Dean Delany to give Dundalk an 18th-minute lead.

The turning point in the game then came on 78 minutes when Dundalk missed a penalty.

Skipper Stephen O’Donnell failed to double his side’s lead when dinking his spot kick over the bar after its contentious award for a challenge by Luke Byrne on Mountney.

Bohs then stormed back late on with Dundalk keeper Peter Cherrie producing his only telling save of the night to turn Kevin Devaney’s stinging drive round a post in the second minute of added time.

Fellow substitute Darragh Reynor swung over the corner and central defender Yadohali powered home his first goal for the club with a towering header.

Derry City remain in the driving seat to finish fourth in the table after holding Shamrock Rovers to a 0-0 draw at the Brandywell.

The Candystripes stay three points ahead of Rovers with two games to play. Fourth position will be enough to qualify for the Europa League should Drogheda United not win the FAI Ford Cup.

Though Derry started the better, it was Rovers' left-back Conor Powell who had the best chance of the first half on 32 minutes when Barry Molloy and keeper Ger Doherty did enough to snuff out the attack.

Hoops' Billy Dennehy was then guilty of a miss from a Pat Sullivan cross early in the second half before Derry came alive with Mark Griffin, Michael Rafter, twice, and Paddy McEleney all having chances.

Rafter then almost won it for Derry in stoppage time, but for the save of the game from Richard Brush.

UCD edged a step closer to survival as they came from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw at cup finalists Drogheda.

The result means Martin Russell's Students move six points clear of bottom sides Bray and Shelbourne.

Drogheda started well with Peter Hynes heading home in style from a Gavin Brennan cross to give them a deserved lead after 11 minutes.

UCD's Craig Walsh cracked a long range drive against a post just before the half hour before the visitors levelled on 33 minutes.

Midfielder Robbie Benson skipped past defender Alan McNally to shoot beyond Gabriel Sava.
