The 22-year-old is out of contract at Carrow Road in the summer.

Taylor, working with the England squad ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier with Finland, wants Marshall to add depth to his injury-hit squad. He has Robbie Savage and Muzzy Izzet on the sidelines and Marshall can play in a wide midfield role as well as at the heart of defence.

Taylor said: "One of the main reasons I signed him is because he is versatile and can play in about three positions. The key thing is that he will add more strength to the squad.

"I used to watch Norwich quite a bit when I was under-21 manager and that is where I knew Lee.

"I picked him for the under-21s and the Nationwide League side when we played against a Serie B side in Italy.

"He is very young still and wants to keep improving. He started at Enfield and appreciates that he has been given the opportunity to play professional football.

"I am looking for him to keep that same attitude at Leicester. He is a hungry player who wants to get better. I have my eye on him mainly for next season."

Marshall was a schoolboy at Luton before he joined Enfield where he combined playing non-league football with working in a leather factory.

He signed for Norwich on transfer deadline day four years ago in an initial £15,000 deal after being spotted playing for Enfield reserves against the Norwich A team by former Canaries boss Dave Stringer.

Marshall broke his ankle in his second appearance for the Canaries against West Brom at the Hawthorns but for the past three seasons has been a regular member of the Norwich side.

His brief taste of England Under-21 action came as a substitute in the 2-1 win over France at Pride Park in February 1999.
