Gardai in Co Galway are reportedly waiting to hear from a disgraced county councillor who is due to serve a one-year prison sentence for fraud and attempted theft.

Fifty-six-year-old Michael 'Stroke' Fahy was hospitalised earlier this month on the day before he was due to begin his jail term.

He has since been discharged and is said to be recovering in respite care.

Reports this morning say gardaí are actively trying to establish his whereabouts, but expect him to make contact as soon as he is well enough to begin his sentence.
