Tomorrow's 24-hour strike at Tesco has been called off following the meeting between the two sides under the auspices of the Labour Court.

The meeting in Sligo, chaired by Labour Court deputy-chairman, Kevin Duffy, lasted for around 2.5 hours.

The two unions, Mandate and SIPTU, will now put the Labour Court proposals to their members on whether or not to call off next weeks planned strikes.

John Douglas of Mandate is confident that a solution to the dispute is within reach.

"We are happy that we have made substantial progress in relation to the pay issue at Tesco."
