Racing star Eddie Irvine was among the celebrities who gathered in Dublin tonight for a star-studded fashion show to raise money for children’s charities.

The Formula 1 driver took to the stage with TV star host Cat Deeley to introduce a line-up of supermodels, sports stars and singers modelling outfits by top international designers.

“I’m here to enjoy myself, it’s great to be back home,” Irvine told the 6,000-strong audience at the third Brown Thomas fashion show.

“I just flew in from Miami and there has been a lot going on in the last couple of days. I’ve been driving around Miami in my Mustang and just enjoying myself.”

Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum and Helena Christensen graced the catwalk with singers, international rugby players and actors at the event at Dublin’s Point Theatre.

Organisers estimated that the sell-out show raised more than €700,000 for three charities.

Among the celebrities at the show were singers Simon Le Bon, Andrea Corr, Samantha Mumba and Westlife’s Nicky Byrne.

They appeared alongside Gisele Bundchen, Yasmin Le Bon and former model Jerry Hall to raise cash for the Children’s Chernobyl Project, ISPCC and the Christina Noble Foundation.

Sports stars included rugby players Brian O’Driscoll and Denis Hickie, and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

Singer Ronan Keating, who attended the show with his wife, introduced the Prada collection.

Also presenting was Jamie Theakston, who told the audience: “I’m having a fantastic time, how wonderful it is there are so many people doing their bit for orphan charities.”

Designer labels being modelled together for the first time included Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy, Prada, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Christian Dior and Roberto Cavalli.

Previous Brown Thomas fashion shows have featured Robbie Williams, Patsy Kensit, Lisa Stansfield, Damon Hill, Dawn French, Natalie Imbruglia and Chris Evans.

Organisers had hoped Davina McCall would present the show alongside Cat Deeley, but last night revealed the Big Brother presenter had cancelled her appearance.
