Irish drivers set to rock

Once again, there is plenty of Irish interest.

Matthew Gilmore, the F3 Scholarship Class leader faces fellow Irish driver, Michael Keohane and another championship rival, British driver, Robbie Kerr.

There are two qualifying sessions today with the double header races tomorrow at 11.30am and 3.30pm.

Irish drivers, Adam Carroll, Gary Turkington, James Murphy and Emmett O'Brien all race in the Slick 50 Formula Ford series.

The last round at Croft some two weeks ago was abandoned so these young racers are eager to get back into action.

Meanwhile, at the Northamptonshire venue, Colin Turkington and Eoin Murray race in the Ford Fiesta Zetec series and Cork's Michael Fitzgerald is in action in today's BRDC Formula Ford Championship race.

RALLYING:

Austin McHale starts today's final leg of the Polski Rally in seventh place.

The Polish event is a co-efficient 20 of the European Rally Championship.

Yesterday, McHale and his co-driver, Brian Murphy, lost time with a puncture.

Their Toyota Corolla WRC was also off the road before they began their recovery to seventh spot.

Eugene Meegan/Dermot O'Gorman, in a Mitsubishi, were 24th starting out this morning.

Frank Meagher is the top seed for a rallysprint at the Tipperary Raceway in Rosegreen tomorrow.

The Cloneen driver, piloting his Ford Focus WRC finished third in the recent Punchestown Rally Masters and is one of the favourites for victory on this occasion.

The first of three timed runs starts t 10.30am tomorrow.

Also amongst the 80 entries are Barry Coleman (Subaru Impreza), Pat Norris (Mitsubishi), Eddie Kinirons (Toyota Celica), James Murphy (Sierra), Davy Aitken (Nova) and the Ford Escorts of Pete Willoughby and Donal O'Brien.
