Injury rules out Waterford captain for three weeks

Waterford United skipper John Frost has been ruled out of action for at least three weeks with an ankle injury.

Waterford United skipper John Frost has been ruled out of action for at least three weeks with an ankle injury.

The Limerick-born defender picked up the injury during a Blues’ training session on Tuesday but the extent of the damage was not realised until after Frost had received medical treatment.

Waterford player manager Alan Reynolds described the loss of the left-back as “a big blow" as he will miss tonight’s FAI Cup tie with first division side Sligo Rovers.

Reynolds is already without Vinny Sullivan while the manager himself has a hamstring problem.

Former Cork City defender Alan Carey and David Breen look set to return to the team tonight as Kevin Waters takes over from Frost at left-back.

Breen and Waters today learned they will be suspended for one match effective August 4 having accumulated eight and four penalty points respectively.

That will keep them out of Waterford’s home eircom League Premier Division game at home to Longford Town on August 6, meaning Reynolds looks set to be without at least three key defenders for that game.
