Cooper returns for first Kingdom appearance of 2012

Colm Cooper makes his first appearance of the year for Kerry as he captains the side against Mayo in Sunday’s Division 1 game in Fitzgerald Stadium.

Cooper will captain the team after returning to club action in recent weeks following a short break in the wake of Dr Crokes’ All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Crossmaglen.

Kerry are already guaranteed top spot and a semi-final place on Sunday week and with that in mind Jack O’Connor has made six changes to the team that beat Laois last day out.

Legion’s Brian Kelly is given his head in goals and takes Tomás Mac an tSaoir’s place while Brian McGuire and Peter Crowley are named in the defence.

Injured Seamus Scanlon is replaced by Anthony Maher who teams up with Kieran O’Donaghy in midfield as the in-form Bryan Sheehan makes way.

David O’Callaghan and Cooper are the two new faces in attack, Darran and Declan O’Sullivan dropping to the substitutes bench.

A fit-again Graham Canty has been drafted back into the Cork team for Sunday’s Division 1 clash with Dublin in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Canty comes in for Sean Kiely at centre-back in one of three changes from the team that beat Mayo last Sunday week.

The suspended Mark Collins is replaced by Paul Kerrigan at centre-forward while Ken O’Halloran takes the gloves, alternating once again with Alan Quirke.

Cork’s line-up shows four changes to the side that beat Dublin the last time the counties played in last year’s Division 1 final, John Miskella having retired with Ciaran Sheehan and Daniel Goulding recovering from long-term injuries.

Armagh have three of Crossmaglen’s victorious All-Ireland team to call on from the bench against Donegal on Sunday — Aaron and Tony Kernan and Jamie Clarke.

Donegal starlet Patrick McBrearty is expected to be available for selection.

Along with the likes of Kildare’s Seán Hurley, the Kilcar teenager is currently at an AFL training camp in London this week. McBrearty’s talent is much-needed in the forward line as Michael Murphy nurses his knee problem and Colm McFadden is a doubt with a hamstring despite lining out for his club St Michael’s last week.

Tyrone, who have already qualified for the Division 2 final where they will face Kildare or Galway, have made four changes for their game against Monaghan.

Pascal McConnell, PJ Quinn, Mickey Murphy and Owen Mulligan all return as they aim to maintain their 100% record and six-game stretch without conceding a goal.

Despite doubts over Tom Condon and Conor Allis, Limerick manager John Allen has named an unchanged side from that which beat Antrim last weekend for tomorrow evening’s Division 1B play-off with Clare.
