Samantha Mumba says she had a panic attack after being offered a role in The Time Machine.
Mumba co-stars alongside Guy Pearce and Mark Addy in the film which has been directed by HG Wells' grandson Simon.
The film is being made by Steven Spielberg's company Dreamworks.
"The movie came about in the most bizarre way," she said.
"I got sent the script and even my agent didn't think I had a chance, but it seemed like a good idea to meet some casting agents.
"I went for the screen test, but I didn't give it much thought, because I was going to the airport afterwards and I was excited about going home.
"I got a call asking me for a second screen test a week later and I nearly died. Then, when I heard I had got the part, I had a panic attack. 'Can I act?' I was asking myself."
Mumba also revealed all her dialogue in the film is spoken in a strange language: "I had to put so much expression into what I said, if people were going to understand."
The Time Machine is due to be released in March.
