Norris to make 'significant announcement' this morning

After Sean Gallagher's shock move to the top of a weekend Presidential opinion poll, the other candidates will today attempt to make back some of the ground lost to the front-runner.

Meanwhile, Independent David Norris - who saw his support halved in the survey - is to make a "significant announcement" at Government Buildings today.

It comes after a disastrous showing in the latest Presidential opinion poll for the Senator - who saw his support halved from 14% to 7%.

Senator Norris was originally scheduled to take part in a debate with the other candidates later today, but his team failed to confirm his attendance at that event last night.

Fine Gael's Gay Mitchell - who is on just 8% support in the latest poll - has rejected the poll findings, saying voters make up their minds on the last week of the campaign.

The Red C opinion poll for the Sunday Business Post will have left the other candidates seeking to slow the momentum of Dragon's Den star Sean Gallagher, whose support is at 39%, ahead of Labour's Michael D. Higgins on 27%.

Yesterday, the Labour candidate described as "crude" any suggestions that he is too old to be President.
