The Football Association has launched an investigation into Craig Bellamy’s confrontation with a fan who invaded the Old Trafford pitch.

Bellamy walked towards the supporter, who had been tackled by stewards, and shoved a hand in his face before the fan was led away during yesterday’s highly-charged Manchester derby.

An FA spokesman said: “We are investigating the incident and we will be looking at the referee’s match report.”

Disciplinary officials have already seen TV footage of the incident, which is also being investigated by Greater Manchester Police. The FA is likely to make a decision on whether to charge Bellamy later today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Manchester United could be in trouble after City substitute Javier Garrido was struck on the head by a coin as he headed down the tunnel at half-time.

The FA are also investigating a clash between Blackburn player El Hadji Diouf and a ball boy at Everton yesterday.

Diouf was interviewed by police in a private room at Goodison Park an hour after yesterday’s match after allegedly using racist abuse towards the ball boy.

An FA spokesman added: “We are aware of the incident and are awaiting reports from the match official. We will also be speaking with the police to establish what their inquiries are in the matter.”
