The Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern said today he had no evidence that prisoners of war were being transported by US authorities through Shannon Airport.

Minister Ahern said no such request for stop-off arrangements had been received by the Government.

Speaking in the Dáil, he said if anyone had evidence of prisoners passing through Shannon Airport they should contact the Gardaí.

“The assurances provided by the US Authorities in this regard were once again confirmed at a meeting with my officials last week,” he said.

“If any citizen or other person has specific evidence that Shannon Airport or any other Irish airport is being used for this purpose, I would reiterate that this should be shared with the Garda authorities, who will be responsible for investigating such matters.”
