The employers' body IBEC is calling for urgent changes in the maths curriculum following further poor results in the Leaving Cert this year.
The organisation has been warning for some time that Ireland could face a shortage of graduates in key areas due to a low uptake in maths and science subjects at third level.
It said today that, while it was not was seeking lower standards in maths exams, the curriculum needed to be urgently revised to encourage students to perform better.
