British Prime Minister Tony Blair looks set to recall Parliament to discuss the Iraqi crisis.
Downing Street says the situation on recalling Parliament is being kept under review.
But Labour Party chairman Charles Clarke dropped a heavy hint that MPs would be summoned back to Westminster.
Mr Clarke said: "The Prime Minister made it clear that Parliament will be recalled before any action has taken place.
"We constantly review the situation and the question is to decide when is the most appropriate time to do it.
"Should it be after, for example, President Bush's speech to the UN, or after the publication of the dossier which the Prime Minister promised in Sedgefield last week?
"The question is the timing of that debate. But everybody should be involved in this debate… it is a very important national debate."
President Bush is due to address the UN on Thursday and the British Government's long-awaited dossier on Saddam's destructive capacity is expected to be published shortly, possibly next week.
It appears unlikely that any recall would happen before that publication.
That suggests that MPs might be recalled to Westminster for a debate in the following week, sandwiched between the Liberal Democrat and Labour annual conferences.
