Pat's stay three points clear at the top

St. Patrick's Athletic were the big winners on a night of drama in the Airtricity League Premier Division without having to kick a ball.

Champions Sligo Rovers lost 3-1 away to Cork City while a late, late goal from Tiarnan Mulvenna gave Dundalk an away win at second-placed Derry City to leave St. Pat's three points clear at the top with the same number of games now played.

Just on the pitch as an 89th minute substitute, Mulvenna was the Dundalk hero as he won a tight game at the Brandywell when turning well to shoot past Ger Doherty following a swift counterattack in the first minute of added time.

Daryl Horgan maintained his good recent form when scoring twice for Cork to stun his former club Sligo at Turner's Cross.

Winger Horgan put Cork ahead four minutes into the second half when latching onto a poor back pass from Joseph Ndo to shoot past Gary Rogers.

Horgan added his second on 74 minutes when skipping by Alan Keane to beat Rogers once again.

New signing David McMillan pulled a goal back for Sligo on 83 minutes. But Cork's new loan signing Ciaran Kilduff restored their two goal winning margin a minute later.

Shamrock Rovers failed to fully capitalise on Derry and Sligo slipping up as they were frustrated by being held to a 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened Bray Wanderers.

Rovers dominated a side they'd beaten 7-0 earlier in the season, but were left livid at the finish having had a goal disallowed at the death.

Central defender Ken Oman thought he'd won it when heading a Sean O'Connor delivery to the net three minutes into added time, but referee Anthony Buttimer disallowed it for a push.

A fifth goal of the season from Axel Bossekota gave Limerick back-to-back wins as struggling Bohemians’ run without a league victory stretched to ten games as they lost 1-0 at Dalymount Park..

Bossekota struck for the only goal of the game on 64 minutes when running through onto a Danny Galbraith pass.

Though there was a suspicion of his having controlled the ball with a hand, the striker swept it home with aplomb.

Barry Ryan then kept Bohs out late on with terrific saves from Dave Scully and Derek Pender.
