Two goals from Francis Jeffers on his full Charlton debut and a first for defender Luke Young helped the Addicks to a 3-0 win over Aston Villa in tonight’s Barclays Premiership clash at The Valley.

The £2.6m (€3.9m) summer signing from Arsenal was on hand to head home Herman Hreidarsson’s centre after 29 minutes, and then latched on to a blunder by Villa skipper Olof Mellberg to sweep in his second after 34 minutes.

Young got his first goal for Charlton on 58 minutes as the visitors – who had hit the bar through Darius Vassell early in the first half and lost keeper Thomas Sorensen to injury at the break – were soundly beaten.

With 18 minutes left, Cole was replaced by Angel – much to the delight of the home fans, who once again voice their disapproval as he trudged off the field.

Jeffers was given a well-earned rest soon after, with Paul Konchesky coming on as Alan Curbishley played five in midfield for the closing stages.

Another summer signing, Talal El Karkouri replaced Kishishev with 12 minutes left, while Brian Hughes was later given a run-out when he came on for Rommedahl.
