Charlton have been forced into a rethink over next season’s new home kit after fans voiced their disapproval at possible designs.
The Barclaycard Premiership club offered supporters the chance to vote for one of two possibilities with the alternatives displayed in the club programme for the game against Manchester United.
Supporters were able to vote for their choice either by voting on the club’s official website, filling in ballot forms or attending the ticket office.
While one shirt was a clear winner, so many voters offered the opinion that neither was suitable that Charlton have now back-tracked.
The announcement on next season’s strip was to be made today but kit suppliers Le Coq Sportif are now to be asked to supply another two designs in a bid to placate The Valley faithful.
Subsequently, the winning shirt will be one of three to choose from in a new poll.
Meanwhile, Greg Shields has joined Charlton’s FA Cup conquerors Walsall in a one-month loan deal.
The 25-year-old right-back, bought for £580,000 from Dunfermline in August 1999 as Danny Mills’ replacement at The Valley, has made just 32 appearances for the club.
Last summer’s arrival of £4m former Tottenham full-back Luke Young and the return to fitness of Radostin Kishishev recently has meant Shields has not played a game this season.
