Ireland’s latest world record breaker will be the centre of attention at a civic reception in his honour in Dublin today.

Ireland’s latest world record breaker will be the centre of attention at a civic reception in his honour in Dublin today.

The city’s Lord Mayor Paddy Bourke is hosting the bash for mountain climbing hero Ian McKeever in recognition of his recent achievement.

The 37-year-old athlete shattered the world record for reaching the top of the seven highest mountains on each continent in 156 days.

He completed his gruelling ordeal when he reached the summit of Denali in Mount McKinley, USA, on June 30.

The world breaking Ulster Bank Seven Summits Challenge included Mount Vinson in Antarctica, Aconcagua in Argentina, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Carstenz Pyramid in Indonesia, Everest in Nepal and Elberus in Russia and Denali in the USA.

Lord Mayor Bourke will greet Mr McKeever at the Mansion House in Dublin.
