Central Bank eases mortgage lending rules

The Central Bank is to ease mortgage-lending limits to allow first-time property buyers to borrow up to four times their income,

The move follows a review of rules designed to prevent a lending bubble.

The bank introduced limits in 2015, capping how much lenders can give for the purchase of a home relative to its value and the borrower's income in a bid to prevent a repeat of excessive lending that devastated the economy over a decade ago.

Weather warnings

Several weather warnings are in place for 16 counties in the south and east of the country.

A status orange rain warning began at midnight for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, with Met Éireann predicting heavy rain, thundery downpours and the possibility of localised flooding.

The forecaster added that conditions are likely to cause disruption.

Two girls injured in Dublin collision

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after two girls were seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Dublin city centre on Monday.

The collision, which involved one vehicle, took place on Amiens Street, Dublin 1 at around 2.30pm.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene and the two pedestrians were taken to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street for treatment.
