Clinton Morrison has thanked Steve Bruce for keeping faith with him during the low points of his Birmingham career.
The Republic of Ireland striker wondered at one stage whether he had a future at St Andrews as he struggled to earn a place in the side after his return from a serious shoulder injury.
But Bruce kept telling his capture from Crystal Palace that his fortunes would alter, with Morrison now linking up well with 14-goal leading scorer Mikael Forssell.
And the Blues chief is again backing Morrison despite the fact that it is three months since his last league goal.
Morrison told the Press Association: “At the time when I was not in the team it did cross my mind that maybe my career with Birmingham was over.
“It is hard not to think that way and at times I felt it hard. But Steve Bruce was brilliant with me. He told me to stick at it.
“He said that things would change. I owe him everything. Now that I am back in the team, I think back to what he told me.
“He was right and I thank him for it. He kept me going at a time when I needed encouragement. I certainly owe him big time.
“Now he puts me in and keeps me in the team when I am not really scoring goals. It is such a boost for me that he has so much faith.”
Morrison admitted that his lack of goal power does affect him even though he is happy to be a provider for the lethal Forssell.
He said: “I think we work so well together that the team benefits. In some ways, it does not matter who scores the goals so long as we win.
“That is how I have to look at the situation. However, deep down I wish I had scored more goals. It does play on your mind a bit but I have to carry on and stick with it.
“At times I feel I am having no luck whatsoever but I know I am playing an important part alongside Mikael.
“Sometimes it just clicks for you with another player and that is how I feel about playing with him.”
