Birmingham City have opened talks with defender Olivier Tebily and midfielder Stephen Clemence over extending their stay at St Andrews.
Clemence and Tebily both have 12 months remaining of their current contracts and Blues manager Steve Bruce is keen to hold onto their services.
Tebily has had only a bit part to play during the current campaign following the arrival of Mario Melchiot from Chelsea.
But Clemence has proved to be a valuable member of the side in the second half of the season following the departure of Robbie Savage.
Bruce said: “We have entered into talks with Olivier Tebily and Stephen Clemence over a new contract. It is our policy not to allow talks over a new deal to drag on into the final year of a contract if we want someone to stay - and I want these two to stay.
“Their respective agents will be talking with our managing director Karren Brady and I don’t foresee any problems although these days nothing ever seems to get sorted straight away.”
Meanwhile, Birmingham are unlikely to attempt to sign Liverpool midfielder Salif Diao on a permanent basis.
Diao joined City on loan in the January transfer window, but has been dogged by various injury problems.
Bruce said: “Salif has been unfortunate. He’s not been able to do himself justice because of injuries. He will probably go back to Liverpool and I think he needs a full season under his belt. We well then assess the situation once he is fully fit.”
