Singer Corinne Bailey Rae has been nominated for three Mobo Awards.
The 27-year-old singer from Leeds is in the running for Best UK Female, Best UK Newcomer and Best Song for Put Your Records On.
Her triple nominations come just six months after she released her debut album.
Bailey Rae’s rivals in the newly-created Best UK Female category are Jamelia, Alesha Dixon, Beverly Knight and Keisha White.
US superstar Beyonce leads the field with four nominations – Best Song and Best Video for déjà vu, Best R&B and Best International Female.
The Mobo (Music of Black Origin) Awards will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on September 20.
The ceremony will be hosted by comedienne Gina Yashere and broadcast live for the first time on BBC3.
Nominees were announced last night at a launch party in Camden, north London.
In past years the awards have been criticised for favouring US artists, but this time the focus is back on UK talent.
London artist Kano is nominated in the Best UK Male, Best Video and Best Hip Hop categories.
The other Best UK Male contenders are hip hop artists Sway and Plan B, alongside soul singers Lemar and Nate James.
Ms Dynamite’s little brother Akala is nominated in the Best Hip Hop category.
The 22-year-old – real name Kingslee Maclean Daley – released his debut album, It’s Not A Rumour, in May.
Best Group will be a contest between Black Eyed Peas, Gnarls Barkley, Outkast, Pussycat Dolls and The Streets.
Gnarls Barley’s chart-topper Crazy is a favourite in the Best Song category.
