A woman has died after a suspected hit-and-run in Dublin.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at at the Cross Guns Bridge on Phibsborough Road, Dublin 7, which occurred at approximately 9.10pm.

The collision involved a car and a pedestrian. A woman in her 60’s was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A family liaison officer has been appointed to the family of the deceased lady.

The section of road from Cross Guns Bridge to the junction of Phibsborough Road and Connaught Street is closed, and local diversions are in place.

The suspect car, a 07D Silver Honda Civic, was recovered in the wider Phibsboro Area a short time later. This car has been removed to a secure location where it is undergoing technical and forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

It's understood the car involved had come to the attention of gardaí shortly before the crash and a referral has been made to the garda watchdog, GSOC.

Any road users with camera footage (including dashcam) who travelled in the Phibsborough area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday 4th October 2023 are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.

An incident room has been set up at Mountjoy Garda Station.
