Down hit top of Division 2
There were a trio of away wins in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League this afternoon, while Meath and Laois shared the spoils on Saturday night.
Down delivered the biggest win of the Division, with a 2-17 to 0-10 victory over Westmeath at Cusack Park, Mullingar.
Jim McCorry's men were in superb form, and claimed a 0-9 to 0-2 interval lead, with Mark Poland (3), Arthur McConville (2), Conor Laverty, Darragh O'Hanlon, Donal O'Hare and Kevin McKernan taking
their first half scores.
Westmeath mounted a challenge in the second half, but Down were hungry for scores, with Arthur McConville (1-2) netting a goal two minutes after the restart, before Donal O'Hare (1-5) followed up two minutes later, on the way to a 13-point victory.
Roscommon got back to winning ways with a 0-24 to 2-12 win over Kildare in Newbridge.
The visitors delivered a sensational second half display, overcoming a three-point interval deficit, to take a six-point win, with Kildare held to just three second half points.
Kildare began brightly, with goals from Eamonn Callaghan and Fionn Dowling helping them to a 2-6 to 0-6 lead after 18 minutes.
Roscommon cut the gap on a 2-9 to 0-12 interval score-line, with Ciaran Murtagh (0-4) and Cathal Cregg (0-6) keeping them in touch.
The visitors dug deep on the restart, with Ultan Harney (0-1), Ciaran Murtagh, Diarmuid Murtagh (0-4), Senan Kilbride (0-3), Colin Compton (0-1) and Enda Smith (0-1) on adding to their tally, on the way to victory.
Cavan claimed their second win of the campaign on a 0-12 to 0-10 score-line against Galway at Pearse Stadium.
Terry Hyland's charges bounced back from a five-point interval deficit to claim victory, as they held Galway to just three second half points.
0-7 to 0-2 in arrears at the break, and with Martin Dunne having a 27th minute penalty saved, Cavan dug deep on the restart.
Dara McVeety, James McEnroe, Martin Reilly, Jack Brady and Dunne were among the visitors scorers, who register a first league win over the Tribesmen since 1936.
Michael Martin, Damien Comer, Paul Conroy and Danny Cummins were on target for the hosts, but a late 60-yard free from Martin Reilly sealed a two-point away win.
