The jury in the trial of two young men charged with the manslaughter of a youth on Portobello Bridge almost two years ago has been sent to a hotel overnight after failing to reach a verdict.
Judge Dominic Lynch sent the eight men and four women to the hotel by after they had been deliberating for just over five hours on day seven of the hearing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court..
The jury will resume its deliberations tomorrow morning.
Ronan McGrath, aged 19, of Deerpark Road, Castleknock, and Fergal Cagney, aged 20, from Greenacres, Kilteely, Co Limerick have pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of 19-year-old David Langan at Grove Road, Dublin, on August 30, 2000.
Both also deny intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct causing harm to Mr Langan on August 25, 2000.
McGrath had also pleaded not guilty to a charge of threatening to kill Mr Langan but this count was withdrawn from the jury during the trial.
