Ireland and Leinster legend Brian O’Driscoll will be involved in the station’s coverage of the European Rugby Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup.

He will also appear on Rugby Tonight, BT Sport’s weekly rugby show.

Speaking to sport.bt.com O’Driscoll was looking forward to his new role.

"I’m excited to be embarking on one of the next steps in my career with BT Sport," he said.

"It’s a big change for me, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and being involved at the inception of the brand new European tournament at a brand new channel like BT Sport."

He will be joining fellow Irishman Craig Doyle and other former rugby internationals Matt Dawson, Austin Healey and Lawrence Dallaglio on the channel.

O'Driscoll retired from rugby at the end of last season and will also be working on Newstalk's sports show 'Off the Ball' as a rugby commentator.
