Independent Wexford TD Liam Twomey has reportedly joined Fine Gael, bringing the party’s Dáil strength to 32 seats.

Reports this morning said Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny would announce the move at a press conference later today.

The recruitment of Dr Twomey would represent a major boost for the party ahead of a two-day meeting of its TDs and Senators in Kilkenny this week.

Dr Twomey (aged 37) took a seat from Fine Gael at the last General Election, when he campaigned on a platform of improving the health services.
