Three firms from North win 2012 Olympics contracts

Three companies from the North have now won contracts to work on the London 2012 Olympics, Stormont’s Finance minister announced today.

Three companies from the North have now won contracts to work on the London 2012 Olympics, Stormont’s Finance minister announced today.

Nigel Dodds said the successes demonstrated the numerous opportunities the event offered for local firms.

Draperstown firm Rogers Fencing Systems Ltd and Omagh based Telestack International Ltd are the latest companies to secure work.

Their winning bids come after Lagan Construction Ltd in Belfast won the contract to build a key footbridge from the Olympics Stadium to the Aquatics Centre.

Rogers will build a security fence while Telestack is to install equipment for a concrete contractor on the London site.

Commending all three firms during Assembly question time, Mr Dodds said: “I visited the Olympic Park site last month to see at first hand the procurement opportunities available to Northern Ireland firms to bid for valuable contracts associated with the London 2012 Olympic Games.”

“I met with John Armitt, Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, who confirmed that there are thousands of opportunities available to work with Olympic Delivery Authority contractors and their supply chains.

“I strongly urge all local firms, and in particular small and medium sized enterprises, to bid for supply chain contracts by using the Invest NI CompeteFor web portal or the new eSourcing NI tendering system, launched by my department’s Central Procurement Directorate (CPD).”

He added: “Three Northern Ireland companies have already won work with the Olympic Delivery Authority which proves that local firms have the expertise and capability to challenge for, and win work, beyond Northern Ireland’s shores, bringing additional benefit to our economy.”
