The North’s First Minister, David Trimble, has called for the Parades Commission to be disbanded and replaced with a tribunal-based system to protect the rights of both unionists and nationalists.

In a scathing attack on the commission, Mr Trimble claimed it had failed to sort out the Drumcree issue because it focused on public order concerns.

Mr Trimble said: "The legislation we have is based on public order considerations and consequently it gives an advantage to whoever manages to mount the biggest threat to public order."
