A 19-year-old woman killed while crossing the road outside a disco in Ibiza looked the wrong way when her friend called out a warning, an inquest has heard.
Rebecca Lattice Gardiner, 19, of Victoria Street, Briton Ferry, Neath, South Wales, had spent the evening with friends at a disco where singer Boy George was the guest DJ.
As she crossed the unlit road in the early hours of the morning to catch a bus back to her hotel, she was hit and flung in the air by the impact of the car, the hearing in Neath was told.
Holiday-maker Mark White, from Kidderminster, gave Rebecca first aid but to no avail and she died at the scene after paramedics tried to revive her.
A translation of documents sent to Britain by the Spanish authorities after the accident last July appeared to show that the driver had neither a valid MoT or insurance for his Seat Ibiza car.
Claire Thomas, 20, said she and Donna Gardiner, believed to be Rebecca's cousin, were crossing the main San Antonio to Ibiza road, outside the popular Amnesia disco, together.
All three had left at about 4am and walked along the road they had to cross to catch the bus back to their hotel three miles away.
She told the inquest: "We all started to cross the road with Rebecca about two feet in front. As we reached the centre of the road, I looked to my right and saw a pair of head lights coming towards us.
"I said: 'Rebecca, there a car' but she looked the opposite way, she looked left instead of right, while we instinctively stood back.
"She seemed to have hesitated because it was almost on top of her. She didn't know whether to run back or stay where she was - that is when the car hit her."
