Injury-prone Malcolm Christie is battling to overcome a groin strain picked up in training this week ahead of tomorrow’s clash with leaders Manchester United at the Riverside Stadium.
Christie, plagued by injury over the past three years, scored his first Premiership goal in 21 months against Aston Villa last weekend.
Mark Viduka, recovering from a broken toe, has an outside chance of making the substitutes’ bench but Tony McMahon (broken leg), Chris Riggott (knee), Andrew Davies (calf) and Matthew Bates (knee) are sidelined.
Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Xavier, Taylor, Woodgate, Huth, Pogatetz, Boateng, Cattermole, Morrison, Downing, Euell, Yakubu, Arca, Jones, Parnaby, Rochemback, Mendieta, Parlour, Viduka, Maccarone, Johnson.
