A 30-year-old man was tonight charged with the double murder of a farmer and his son.
Thomas Barrett was brought before a special court accused of killing Michael Hanrahan, 60, and his 27-year-old son, Denis.
Their bodies were found in their Co Kerry home on Thursday with eight shotgun cartridges scattered on the floor beside them.
Both men died from gunshot wounds.
Barrett, of Causeway, Co Kerry, was arrested in the nearby town of Tralee on Saturday night for the unlawful possession of firearms.
A gun which was also recovered was tested to see if it was linked to the shotgun cartridges found in the Hanrahan home in Moyvane.
It is believed Barrett was known to the Hanrahan family.
He appeared before Listowel District Court this evening and was remanded in custody.
Michael Hanrahan, whose wife, Anne, died from cancer 12 years ago, was well-known in Moyvane.
He was a local correspondent for The Kerryman newspaper and was known for his active involvement in the village’s sports and arts associations.
Denis, who helped his father run the family dairy farm, had a twin brother and three sisters.
