Davies happy to stay with Baggies

Curtis Davies insists he is happy at West Brom even though he admits a decision could be taken out of his hands if the Baggies are relegated from the Barclays Premiership.

Central defender Davies has made a big impression since his £3m (€4.4m) move from Luton in the summer when he was also a target for Birmingham manager Steve Bruce.

He came straight into the side and has been linked with several clubs including Arsenal, who were understood to have made a bid for the 20-year-old during the January transfer window.

But Davies is content with life at The Hawthorns as fourth-from-bottom Albion prepare for Saturday’s home encounter with runaway leaders Chelsea.

He said: “There are always little whispers but it was the same when I was at Luton with teams throwing their names in the hat trying to unsettle me.

“I’m happy at Albion. I’ve only been here seven months so it’s ridiculous that people are trying to nick me already. I don’t know if there is any truth behind it and there are a lot of rumours.

“I’m just happy to play my football and I want to help us get away from the bottom three for once and for all. We’ve had a few chances to do that but it hasn’t quite happened for us.”

But Davies conceded: “If we were to get relegated, you don’t know what the club might do. It’s down to what the club’s ambitions are.

“They might keep me to help get us back up into the Premiership or, if we stay up, keep me and try to push on.

“It’s out of my hands but I’m happy here and I want to give everything to West Brom which is the main thing.”
