Ramsay remains in charge
A 20-foot putt on the short third kept Scotland’s Richie Ramsay in control of the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama today.
Ramsay led by two shots after the first and second rounds and that was how it remained after six holes.
But a bogey on the next left the former US Amateur champion only one in front of last week’s runaway winner Sergio Garcia, who had three birdies and a bogey in his first eight holes.
Garcia pitched to three feet on the long fourth moments after playing partner Miguel Angel Jimenez had holed out from 72 yards for an eagle three.
The 31-year-old three-putted the next, but almost aced the short sixth, saved par with a brilliant bunker shot on the next and then rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt at the eighth.
Joint third on three under were 47-year-old Jimenez and Swede Christian Nilsson - five under for the first 14 holes – but Frenchman Gregory Havret, Ramsay’s closest challenger at halfway, bogeyed the fourth and sixth to drop to fifth place at one under.
Joint second on three under were Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who pitched in from 72 yards for an eagle three at the long third.
