Barrett laughs off 'suit up' suggestions

The newly elected 'People Before Profit' TD for Dun Laoghaire Richard Boyd Barrett has laughed off suggestions, from the Government's Chief Whip Paul Kehoe, that certain members of Dáil Eireann should dress more appropriately for Leinster House.

The newly elected 'People Before Profit' TD for Dun Laoghaire Richard Boyd Barrett has laughed off suggestions, from the Government's Chief Whip Paul Kehoe, that certain members of Dáil Éireann should dress more appropriately for Leinster House.

It was reported earlier this week that Mr. Kehoe had asked other party whips to have a quiet word with their members about the clothes they choose to wear to the Dáil.

Deputy Boyd Barrett said he thinks there was more pressing issues that the Government need to address: "I have to say that when it was mentioned briefly that at the technical group weekly meeting…the whip Catherine Murphy said that Fine Gael's chief whip had brought this up.

"To be honest, we just all started laughing, and didn't take it seriously.

"I'm just astonished that with all the things facing the country at the moment, the very serious things, that they would want to bring this up."
