One big move on Merseyside went through today as Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho completed an £8.5million switch to Liverpool, but Everton’s signing of FC Twente star Leroy Fer fell through.

Coutinho, 20, joined the Reds from Inter Milan but Everton pulled the plug on the Fer deal after failing to agree on renegotiated terms with the Dutch side following the knee problem that emerged during the medical.

Harry Redknapp, meanwhile, was closing in on a significant signing for QPR in the form of centre-back Chris Samba from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

QPR triggered the £12.5million release clause in his contract and the Congo international, for years a stalwart at Blackburn, is seen as the ideal man to replace his former Rovers defensive partner Ryan Nelsen, who is heading to Canada to become head coach of Toronto FC.

Redknapp also confirmed the signing of South Korea full-back Yun Suk-young on a three-and-a-half-year contract from K-League side Chunnam Dragons for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has been granted a work permit and will be eligible to play for the Hoops when he is granted a visa.

Stoke striker Peter Crouch and French midfielder Etienne Capoue are among those also believed to be on QPR’s radar ahead of tomorrow’s deadline while it is believed the club have given Alejandro Faurlin permission to speak to Palermo over a loan move.

Norwich confirmed today they have agreed the loan signing of Sporting Kansas City striker Kei Kamara until May 6, subject to immigration clearance.

The 28-year-old Sierra Leone international needs approval from the UK Border Agency before he can play.

Meanwhile, Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland is believed to have turned down the chance to discuss personal terms with Chelsea.

It is understood Butland, 19, is not keen on a move to a club where he would not be playing regular first-team football as he looks to continue his development.

Another England international goalkeeper is in talks over a move to West Ham.

Blackburn’s 33-year-old shot-stopper Paul Robinson, who retired from international football in 2010, has fallen out of favour at Ewood Park in recent months.
