Houllier likely to resist change

Gerard Houllier seems unlikely to make changes when Liverpool continue their stuttering attempts to claim Champions League football next season at bitter rivals Manchester United.

Gerard Houllier seems unlikely to make changes when Liverpool continue their stuttering attempts to claim Champions League football next season at bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Anfield chief has Irish full-back Steve Finnan back in full training after a lengthy shoulder injury, but the former Fulham defender seems unlikely to be risked in such a high-profile clash.

French youngster Anthony Le Tallec is also training again after an ankle problem, but he is also still short of match practice.

Houllier could recall Emile Heskey as Michael Owen’s strike partner, or use Milan Baros from the start, but it would be a surprise if the French coach considered anything else but a defensive set-up with Danny Murphy – who has twice scored winners at United in the last four years – possibly returning in midfield.

Provisional squad: Dudek, Carragher, Henchoz, Hyypia, Hamann, Riise, Murphy, Gerrard, Kewell, Owen, Heskey, Baros, Pongolle, Biscan, Traore, Cheyrou, Diouf, Luzi.
