Carlow man awaits sentence in child-rape case

A Carlow man who raped a young girl has been remanded in custody for sentence later by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

A Carlow man who raped a young girl has been remanded in custody for sentence later by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

The 34-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons pleaded guilty to eight sample charges of rape and anal rape of the victim on dates from 2002 to 2006. There were 53 counts on the indictment.

Mr Justice Carney directed that the man be registered as a sex offender and that probation and victim impact reports be prepared for the sentence hearing at which evidence of the crimes will be given by Detective Garda Maria McWey.
