A garda was left badly injured and off work for five months after he was dragged into a house, held at knife-point and attacked by youths, a court has heard.
Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick was told at the Dublin Children’s Court that the garda was off work for five months, had cuts under his eye and on his head, and still has a sore back, following the alleged incident in Ballymun, on October 25, last year.
Sergeant Francis Gormley told the court that the garda had been attempting to arrest a youth. There was a struggle and the garda was dragged into the house and held at knife point and threatened.
It is alleged other youths came into the house and attacked the garda, and that a 16-year-old boy smashed a bottle over his face and kicked him to his head and body.
The 16-year-old boy is charged with obstruction of a Garda in the execution of his duty.
Judge Fitzpatrick refused jurisdiction to hear the case in the Children’s Court and ordered that the case should be sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court.
He ordered the preparation of a book of evidence and remanded the teenager on bail until October 28 next.
