FF: Risk of savage Community Employment cuts

Fianna Fáil have said there's a risk of savage cuts to Community Employment Schemes around the country because of delays in the Department of Social Protection.

Cuts were announced on budget day, but then immediately put on hold by Minister Joan Burton.

She told the Dáil that a review that was meant to be completed by the end of March is still not ready.

Fianna Fáil's Seán Fleming says the consequences of that could make the situation worse than the initial cuts announced: "We are heading to a situation now where if you do want to achieve your budget cuts, as announced, you are telling the schemes that can by and large make the case for their funding at the momen (that they will be cut).

"Are we going to find ourselves in a situation in the second half of the year where you're going to implement the entire budgetary day announcement cuts? It'll be a very severe situation for those people."
