Manchester United have invited Neale Cooper to Old Trafford for a coaching stint following his resignation as Ross County manager.
Cooper played for Alex Ferguson at Aberdeen and minutes after completing the paperwork that saw him released from the Highland club, the United manager made his open-ended offer.
Cooper said: “I was walking downstairs with a tear in my eye. My mobile phone rang and I could hardly believe who it was.
“He didn’t actually know I had resigned. When I told him, he said I should have a break, get a bit of sunshine and then come along and coach at Old Trafford for a while.
“It’s a nice offer, although I’d stress it isn’t a job offer.”
