Trócaire urges Govt support of Darfur mission

Irish aid agency Trócaire has urged the Government to support a possible deployment of peacekeepers from the African Union in western Sudan.

Irish aid agency Trócaire has urged the Government to support a possible deployment of peacekeepers from the African Union in western Sudan.

The call comes ahead of a meeting today between Junior Minister Tom Kitt and various agencies working in the Darfur region.

Around one million ethnic black Africans have been expelled from their land in the region by militias supported by the Arab-dominated Sudanese Government.
