FA confirm Rooney to travel with England *

Wayne Rooney (pictured) will travel to Germany on Monday with England’s World Cup squad.

The Football Association confirmed today their injured striker, scheduled to have a scan on his broken foot on Wednesday June 7, will join his team-mates when they head to Baden-Baden.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson wants to analyse Rooney’s fitness and recovery rates ahead of the crucial scan.

An FA statement said: “England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed today Wayne Rooney will fly out to Germany with the rest of the England squad on Monday.

“Wayne will then return to England on Wednesday for a scan on his foot in Manchester.

“Wayne will be accompanied by the England team doctor Leif Sward who will then analyse the scan with Manchester United.”

Eriksson has until Friday June 9 to decide whether or not Rooney will be part of the England squad for the World Cup finals.

Everton to complete Johnson move

*

Everton have confirmed that Andy Johnson has successfully completed his medical and will become the club’s record signing today.

Striker Johnson has cost the Goodison Park club stg8.6m, beating the previous club record of stg6m spent by manager David Moyes to bring James Beattie from Southampton in January 2005.

Johnson and Beattie – close friends off the pitch – will now form Everton’s new strike force for next season.

Johnson was given leave of absence from England’s World Cup squad yesterday to have his medical with the Merseysiders, and at lunch-time today a club spokesman confirmed that had been successfully completed.

Chief executive Keith Wyness and club secretary Dave Harrison have travelled to England’s team hotel, the Lowry in Manchester, for Johnson to sign a four-year contract that will make him the club’s highest paid player on aound stg40,000 a week, more than doubling his Crystal Palace wages.

Johnson will be involved in the England squad’s friendly with Hungary at Old Trafford tonight and will be unveiled to the media at Goodison Park tomorrow afternoon.

Chelsea complete transfer of Feyenoord striker

*

Chelsea have completed the signing of Feyenoord striker Salomon Kalou on a three-year deal.

The Stamford Bridge club signed the 20-year-old after he completed a medical and agreed personal terms.

An undisclosed fee has been agreed with the Dutch club for a striker who has scored 35 goals in 67 games over the last two seasons, plus four in seven UEFA Cup appearances.

Kalou scored 20 goals in the 2004/05 season, the second best total in the Dutch top flight that campaign, and he won the 2005 Johan Cruyff Award for young talent playing in Holland.

Kalou was born in Ivory Coast but failed in a bid to obtain Dutch nationality in order to play for Holland at this summer’s World Cup.
