A woman has appeared in Cork District Court today charged with causing serious harm to her husband in a New Year’s Eve incident, following which he died.
Dilorom Sulaymanov, 35, replied: “I accept the charge but I was defending my children, my mother and myself.”
Detective Sergeant Declan O’Sullivan noted that reply after he charged her last night with assault causing serious harm to Abduazim Sulaymanov on December 31.
The 39-year-old man died on Saturday morning following the stab wound he sustained on New Year's Eve.
Eddie Burke, solicitor, said Ms Sulaymanov was not presently working as she was suffering from post traumatic stress. Mr Burke was appointed to represent her on free legal aid. She has two children.
Inspector Michael Fitzpatrick applied to have the case adjourned until January 24 to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Judge Uinsin MacGruairc remanded the accused on bail as there was no garda application for her to be remanded in custody.
Bail conditions require her to reside at 7 Pinewood, Ballinlough Road, Cork, sign daily at Anglesea Street garda station, remain in Ireland and surrender her travel documents. Cash bail of €2,000 was lodged in court.
Ms Sulaymanov from Uzbekistan wore a head scarf in court and wiped her eyes during the hearing.
