SDLP leader and former Deputy First Minister Mark Durkan has urged people not to rush to judgement following the arrest of a civil servant yesterday in connection with alleged IRA intelligence gathering.

Gerard Willis, who worked in both the First and Deputy First Ministers' offices, was arrested as part of an investigation into hundreds of documents seized in raids on republican areas of Belfast several weeks ago.

Mr Durkan confirmed today that Mr Willis worked in his office for some months, but said the only thing that had come to his attention in that time was the man's good work and good manner.
