The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan is expected to issue a further statement today in relation to the Garda whistleblower controversy.
There is mounting pressure on the Commissioner after he described the actions of whistleblowers Sergeant Maurice McCabe and former Garda John Wilson as "disgusting".
The Cabinet is also expected discuss the issue when it meets.
The controversy has created a crisis for the Coalition after the Transport Minister Leo Varadkar called on the Garda Commissioner to withdraw his remarks that the whistleblowers' actions were disgusting.
This was later backed by Labour Ministers Pat Rabbitte, Joan Burton, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, and Ruairi Quinn.
Last night, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said he had not been in touch with the Commissioner over the issue, and insisted that he would not pre-empt today's Cabinet meeting.
