The chairman of Bórd na gCon Pascal Taggart is planning to push ahead with a press conference today, despite the wishes of the Minister for Sport John O’Donoghue.

Mr Taggart is to give his position on the doping controversy at the greyhound track at Shelbourne Park at 10am.

Minister O'Donoghue warned yesterday he did not want anyone involved in the row that resulted in the sacking of the board's chief executive Aidan Tynan discussing the dispute with the media until an inquiry into the affair was completed.

However Mr Taggart has vowed to go ahead with the press conference, saying he would not talk about Mr Tynan's sacking, but would discuss all other issues.

The minister has appointed the former secretary general of the Department of Justice Tim Dalton to carry out an investigation of the sacking.
