Down without captain Coulter

Down will entertain Wexford on Sunday (Newcastle, throw-in 3.00pm) with their talismanic captain Benny Coulter.

Down will entertain Wexford on Sunday (Newcastle, throw-in 3.00pm) with their talismanic captain Benny Coulter.

The Mayobridge forward sustained a hamstring during Down's last NFL Division 1B outing - the 3-08 to 1-13 beating of Kildare on February 12 - and has failed to recover in time.

Clonduff clubman Jason Brown steps into the breach at full-forward.

Down manager Paddy O'Rourke has made two other changes to the side that edged the Lilywhites - Dan McCartan and Alan Molloy replace injured duo Paul Murphy and Mark Doran in the Mourne line-up.

McCartan will start at left corner back - he lined out at full-back for Queen's University in last Saturday's Sigerson Cup final against DCU.

His younger brother Eoin, who chipped in with a point in the defeat by DCU, has retained his place in the Down side at left corner forward.

Burren youngster Eoin McCartan, at just 21, will be hoping to get off the mark against Wexford having been held scoreless in the wins over Meath and Kildare.

DOWN (NFL v Wexford) - M McVeigh; M Cole, B Grant, D McCartan; A Molloy, J Clarke, D Rafferty; A Rodgers, D Gordon; R Sexton, M Walsh, D Hughes; L Doyle, J Brown, E McCartan.
