The UK's premier soul sista Beverley Knight follows the Top 10 success of her single Shoulda Woulda Coulda with another belting ballad called Gold.

Inspired by some words of comfort from a friend, the uplifting, piano-led song is the third cut from her Top 10 album Who I Am. Beverley says she wrote the song after a nasty break-up.

"It was a bit of a dodgy bloke situation," she says. "It only lasted two weeks and it was a kind of foreign affair. Not a holiday romance as I was working but I met up with this guy, you know how it goes.

"The whole thing left me feeling really awful after and I talked through everything with my best friend, who also happened to be working overseas and was with me a lot of the time.

"She said, 'Don't let this make you feel dreadful, just remember that to me and to others you're like gold'."

Beverley recently completed a successful UK tour and says that performing live is her greatest love.

Despite being a glamorous R&B star she's willing to get her feet dirty for her art and will be appearing at Glastonbury festival, Wittness festival in Dublin, T In The Park and V2002.

"It's the first time I'll have done festivals in Britain and I don't quite know what to expect," she admits.

"People probably aren't expecting someone like me but most people - even if they're not massive fans of my kind of music - say, 'She at least believes in what she's doing'. That's enough for me."
