The Central Statistics Office has reported an increase in the number of tourists visiting Ireland.

The Central Statistics Office has reported an increase in the number of tourists visiting Ireland.

The CSO said the number of people visiting Ireland in the third quarter of this year increased by 7% compared to the same period last year.

Visitors from the USA and Canada increased by 7.6%, it said.

In total, 2,187,000 overseas tourists visited Ireland between July and September, an increase of 42,000 on the same period last year.

The CSO said more Irish people were also travelling abroad, with 1.6 million taking a foreign holiday between July and September.
